The minimum rate of interest that will be paid on a variable or floating rate loan.

CONT

In the early 1960's the trend moved to a floating rate with "collars", i.e., prime + ¼ percent with a floor of 3 percent and a ceiling of 6 percent.

Contrat d'option sur taux d'intérêt, qui fixe à l'avance une limite inférieure au taux d'intérêt et qui, moyennant le versement d'une prime au vendeur, confère à l'acheteur le droit d'encaisser, et impose au vendeur l'obligation de verser, à chaque période de référence, un différentiel d'intérêt entre un taux variable de référence, par exemple le taux LIBOR [London Interbank Offered Rate], et le taux plancher fixé par le contrat, si ce dernier taux est supérieur.

[Le taux plancher garanti] permet à l'acheteur de se protéger contre une baisse des taux d'intérêt pendant une période déterminée, tout en conservant la possibilité de bénéficier d'une hausse éventuelle des taux d'intérêt. Ainsi, l'acheteur se trouve assuré qu'un minimum correspondant à la limite plancher du taux d'intérêt.

Instrumento financiero que cubre el riesgo de que el tipo de interés baje de un nivel fijado. Se utiliza por acreedores fuertes en préstamos a interés variable. El proveedor del suelo a cambio de una comisión cubre la diferencia, si la hay, entre el tipo de referencia y el fijado. Igual que en el techo se fijan plazos (hasta 20 años) y porcentajes de protección.
